On busy Narragansett, bus stop right in front. This branch is boxy, brick, and utilitarian. Library clerks look like the stereotypical gray haired librarians, but are friendly and helpful. A section of polish and spanish books displayed prominently. A big selection of Chicago books, for the City of Big Readers program, plus more.
Right across the street is a storefront Thai restaurant, down the block is a couscous place with arabic writing and a gyros spit in the window. The Polish health food store next door doesn't have foodstuffs, but herbal and other remedies, most with signs I can't read, I think they are all about "cleansing"?
A few patrons waiting for the bus in front of the doors hop on going south. I realize I can get to this library on that bus and only walk about 25 steps total from my own front door. Worlds away.
